What is Cervical Cancer?
Most cervical cancers begin in the cells lining the cervix
The cervix is the lower part of the uterus (womb). It connects the uterus to the vagina (birth canal)
Causes
Most cervical cancer is caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV)
HPV can be transmitted through sexual contact with someone who has it
Key Statistics about Cervical Cancer:
~12,360 new cases of invasive cervical cancer will be diagnosed
~4,020 women will die from cervical cancer
More than 20% of cases of cervical cancer are found in women over 65
